 Redstone Plein Air Painting Workshop

Overview: Join us for a 3-day plein air painting workshop, where the breathtaking Crystal Valley becomes your studio. Immerse yourself in the beauty of nature as you capture its essence on canvas. Whether you're a seasoned artist or a beginner, this workshop is designed to elevate your skills and ignite your passion for plein air painting.

Dates: September 6 – 8 2024 | Location: Redstone Cliffs Lodge, Redstone

What to Expect:

Each morning and afternoon session across the 3 day workshopwill include a demonstration followed by ample time to paint on your ownYou will be provided with one on one coaching to help improve your painting and each day will finish with a group share and critique.

Each session will focus on the basics of plein air painting including value studies, color theory and composition while learning to paint the key landscape elements to capture the Crystal Valley. 

Each morning will begin at Redstone Cliffs Lodge with a light breakfast. We will travel to different painting locations within the Crystal Valley to paint different mountain and river scenes. Short walking distances may be required with your painting gear.  

Dione will help you develop your plein air painting skills and help you create paintings that convey depth and atmosphere. 

About Your Instructor

Dione Holt is a Colorado based landscape painter working in Oil, Gouache and Watercolor. She is passionate about painting outdoors to capture the landscape in the mountain west across all seasons. 

Dione teaches classes and workshops in plein air painting, gouache and oil painting. Her work has been juried into the national Plein Air Artists of Colorado annual exhibition, and other regional and local exhibitions. Dione was selected for the Canyons and Monuments as well as the Crested Butte plein air events in 2023. 

Dione organizes weekly plein air paint outs for the Plein Air Artists of Colorado and is a board member of the Redstone Arts Foundation. 

Skill Level

All skill levels are welcome – beginner to advanced - however it is best if participants have some painting experience. 

Materials 

All media are welcome. Demonstrations will be in Oil, Watercolor or Gouache depending on participant preferences. A material list will be provided to participants and materials can also be purchased from instructor with advanced notice. 

What’s included:

A light complimentary breakfast and catered lunch will be provided daily. A group dinner will be provided on Friday evening catered by a local restaurant at the Redstone Cliffs Lodge. Coffee, tea, drinks and afternoon snacks will also be provided. Non-painting partners are welcome to join us for meals for an extra meal charge.

Getting to Redstone

 Driving from Denver

Redstone is approximately a 3.5-hour drive west from Denver along I-70 through the Rocky Mountains. Exit I-70 at Glenwood Springs and take Hwy 82 towards Aspen. Turn Right at Carbondale on Highway 133 and follow the signs approximately 20 minutes to Redstone. 

 Local Airports with rental cars:

Aspen (ASE) – 1 hr 

Eagle (EGE) – 1 hr & 10min

Grand Junction (GJT) – 2 hrs

 

Cancellation Policy for Redstone Plein Air Painting Workshop:

1. Cancellation by Participant:

o Cancellations made 90 days or more before the workshop start date will receive a full refund less credit card processing fees.

o Cancellations made within 60 – 14 days of the workshop start date will be eligible for a 50% refund, less credit card processing fees. 

o No refunds will be issued for cancellations made less than 14 days prior to the workshop or for no-shows.

2. Transfer of Registration:

o Participants may request to transfer their registration to another person at no additional cost. Please notify us in advance of any such changes.

3. Cancellation by the Organizer:

o In the unlikely event that the workshop is canceled by the organizer, participants will receive a full refund.

4. Minimum Enrollment:

o The workshop requires a minimum of 5 participants to proceed. If this minimum is not met, the organizer reserves the right to cancel the workshop. In such cases, participants will receive a full refund
